Introducing stand-up paddle boarding to Ocean to City Race!

Introducing stand-up paddle boarding to Ocean to City Race!
February 11, 2016 Joya

Last year, for the first time ever, Ocean to City had a Stand-Up Paddle board (SUP) entry on the 7nm/13km Monkstown Course. Our SUP participant, Jason Coniry, did very well and completed the course in 01:36:30, coming in 7th position out of 24 kayak paddlers who were also on the Monkstown Course.

On foot of last year’s success, the Ocean to City race has decided to pilot a small number of SUP participants on the Monkstown Course in 2016. Because this category is still being piloted, and due to safety considerations, SUP participation will, for the time being, be by invitation only.

Are you an experienced, long-distance Stand-Up Paddle boarder who’s looking for a new challenge? Keen on joining 600 other rowers and paddlers in their race from ocean to city?

Please send your expression of interest to info@oceantocity.com. In your email please outline your previous supping experience (e.g. long-distance training, ocean supping experience, previous races), as well as the type of board and paddle you intend on using. As a long-distance rowing/paddling race, Ocean to City SUP participation is for solid (i.e not inflatable) 12’6, 14’ and unlimited class boards.

The SUP category will have its own dedicated Sub-Race within the Ocean to City and regular entry procedures, regulations and prize guidelines will apply to those invited to partake.

Deadline for expression of interest: 31st March 2016

Ocean to City Race: Saturday 4th June 2016
